Overview:

The Albino Pygmy Corydoras is an incredibly charming and highly sought-after "nano" catfish. While standard Albino Corys are bred from the larger Bronze Cory, this miniature version is a rare color morph of the tiny Corydoras pygmaeus. They possess a soft, pearlescent pinkish-white body and striking ruby-red eyes. Because they are so small, they look like moving grains of rice as they navigate the aquarium.

Origins:

The parent species is native to the Madeira River basin in Brazil. Unlike wild-type Pygmy Corys that have a dark horizontal stripe, this albino variation is selectively line-bred in captivity, retaining the exact same diminutive proportions and unique habits.

Personality:

These tiny catfish are incredibly peaceful, busy, and social. However, they have a major behavioral quirk that sets them apart from 95% of other Corydoras: they love to swim mid-water. Instead of strictly hugging the gravel, a school of Albino Pygmy Corys will form a tight, synchronized pack and hover effortlessly in mid-air alongside your tetras or rasboras, acting more like standard schooling fish.

Should be kept in groups? Yes, strictly. Because of their tiny size, they are easily intimidated. They must be kept in a group of at least 6 to 8 (though 10+ is ideal). If kept in too small a number, they will hide constantly and fail to thrive.

Pro Tip: Because they are so small and peaceful, they are 100% shrimp-safe. They are the perfect addition to high-end dwarf shrimp breeding tanks (like Cherry or Crystal Bee shrimp), as they lack the mouth size to bother adult shrimp and will rarely disrupt shrimplets. Just ensure the substrate is smooth sand to protect their tiny facial whiskers!
