Aqua One Filter Sock Replacement

Maintain superior water clarity and quality in your aquarium's sump system with Aqua One Filter Sock Replacements. These essential mechanical pre-filters are designed to trap fine particulate matter before it can settle in your sump or re-enter the main display tank. By effectively removing debris such as uneaten food, detritus, and microalgae, Aqua One Filter Socks contribute to a healthier aquatic environment and crystal-clear water.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Mechanical Pre-Filtration: Acts as the first line of defense in your sump, trapping physical debris.
  • Enhances Water Clarity: Effectively removes suspended particles, leading to sparkling clean water.
  • Supports a Healthy Ecosystem: Prevents the buildup of organic waste, which reduces the risk of disease and promotes the overall health of your fish and corals.
  • Micron Mesh: Typically features a 150 or 200 micron mesh (check specific product details as micron size can vary), capable of trapping particles as small as 0.15mm-0.2mm.
  • Durable Material: Constructed from high-quality polyester mesh for long-lasting use and resistance to tearing.
  • Genuine Aqua One Part: Ensures compatibility and quality with Aqua One sump systems.
  • Suitable for: Both Marine and Freshwater aquariums.
  • Washable and Replaceable: Designed for easy cleaning and replacement, ensuring continuous optimal performance.

Common Sizes & Compatibility:

Aqua One offers filter socks in various sizes to suit different sump systems and feed pipe diameters. Common dimensions include:

  • Standard (e.g., 50103 / 50105): Approximately 10cm x 10cm x 37cm (LxWxH).
  • Round Mini (e.g., for ReefSys/MiniReef): Approximately 12cm (diameter) x 11.5cm (top width) x 26.5cm (height).

Always refer to your filter manual or the specific product dimensions to ensure compatibility with your sump's filter sock holder and feed pipe diameter (often suitable for pipes up to 50mm and glass thickness up to 6-10mm).

Maintenance & Replacement:

For optimal performance, it is highly recommended to clean or replace filter socks frequently, typically every 3-5 days, or as soon as they show signs of clogging or discoloration. This prevents trapped organic matter from breaking down and leaching nitrates back into your water.

  • Cleaning: Filter socks can often be cleaned and reused. Turn them inside out and rinse thoroughly under running water (high-pressure hose works well). For a deeper clean, some hobbyists machine wash them on a heavy-duty, hot cycle with a small amount of fragrance-free bleach (NO DETERGENT!). Ensure they are thoroughly rinsed and air-dried completely (or soaked in dechlorinator) to remove any residual chlorine before reintroduction into the aquarium.
  • Replacement: Replace socks when they no longer clean effectively or if the mesh fabric begins to fray or loosen.

Having several replacement filter socks on hand is advisable to allow for a rotation schedule while dirty socks are being cleaned.
