Blue Rim / Blue Ring Betta Male (Betta splendens variant)
Overview:
The Blue Rim (frequently called the Blue Ring) Betta is widely considered the holy grail of modern, high-end Betta breeding. Known as a "patterned marble" strain, a high-grade specimen features an opaque, porcelain-white or cellophane-white body completely framed by a solid, unbroken band of vibrant electric-blue or royal-blue along the outer edges of its fins. When the fish flares, this vivid blue border traces a crisp, continuous outline around the body, creating a striking "ring" effect.
Origins:
While ancestral Betta splendens originate from the warm, shallow rice paddies and stagnant basins of Thailand, the Blue Rim morphology is a recent, highly prized line-breeding achievement. Most Blue Rim Bettas are bred in the Plakat (HMPK - Halfmoon Plakat) short-finned tail shape, though long-finned Halfmoons are also selectively produced.
Personality:
Like all male Bettas, the Blue Rim is fiercely proud, intelligent, and highly territorial. Plakat variants in particular are noticeably faster and more athletic than heavy, long-finned Bettas. They are exceptionally interactive, frequently swimming to the front glass, tracking your hands, and flaring enthusiastically at their own reflection.

The "Grizzled / Marble" Reality: Because Blue Rim Bettas carry the famous Marble gene, their coloration is genetically unstable throughout their lifetime. It is extremely common for a pristine white Blue Rim to gradually sprout small blue spots on its body as it matures, or eventually turn solid blue. Keeping their water pristine, temperature stable ($26^\circ\text{C}$), and stress low helps maintain clean, sharp color boundaries.

Gentle Filtration: Strong water currents will exhaust them. Use an air-driven sponge filter or baffle a power filter output.
