Important Preparation Note for Aquariums:

Driftwood may initially float and release tannins (which can tint water a tea colour, beneficial for some fish).

To prepare for aquarium use: Soak driftwood in clean water for several days to weeks, changing the water frequently, until it sinks and the tannins leaching significantly reduce. Boiling the wood can speed up this process and also sterilize it.
