Overview: The Dragon Longfin is a powerhouse of the Betta world. It is defined by the "Dragon" trait, which refers to thick, opaque, metallic-white scales that cover the fish's body like a suit of armor. These scales are so dense they often resemble porcelain or white paint. This striking body is usually contrasted by long, flowing fins in vibrant solid colors—most commonly deep red, royal blue, or black. It is one of the most high-contrast and visually stunning Bettas available.
Origins: The Dragon trait was first developed in Southeast Asia (particularly Thailand) in the early 2000s. Breeders crossed wild Betta mahachaiensis with domestic show Bettas to achieve that unique, heavy metallic scale thickness.
Personality: Dragon Bettas are known for being exceptionally "feisty." They are highly territorial and reactive, often flaring at their owners, their reflections, or even a wayward snail. Because they are often bred from "Plakat" (short-finned) lineage to ensure scale thickness, even the long-finned versions tend to be more energetic and aggressive than your average Veiltail or Halfmoon.

Important Care Note: Dragon Bettas are prone to a condition called "Diamond Eye," where those thick metallic scales grow over the fish's eyes, potentially causing partial or total blindness. To prevent this, ensure they have a low-stress environment and high-quality food. If your Dragon Betta does go blind, don't worry—they can easily be trained to find food by tapping on the glass or using a feeding ring!
