Overview: The Harlequin Rasbora is a quintessential community fish, beloved for its reliability and striking looks. It features a shimmering reddish-copper body with a very famous "black wedge" or triangle on the rear half of its body. This "harlequin" mark starts under the dorsal fin and tapers to a point at the tail. They are incredibly hardy, making them a top recommendation for anyone starting their first aquarium.
Origins: Native to Southeast Asia, specifically Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, and Thailand. In the wild, they are often found in "blackwater" environments—slow-moving forest streams and peat swamps where decaying leaves make the water soft, acidic, and tea-colored.
Personality: Harlequins are peaceful, social, and energetic. They are classic schooling fish that look their best when swimming together in synchronized groups. They primarily occupy the middle and upper layers of the tank. While they are a bit timid if kept in small numbers, a large school will be bold, active, and constantly on display.
Care Level: Very Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Diet: Omnivore (Small flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen foods like daphnia or brine shrimp)
Max Size: 4 – 5 cm
Family: Cyprinidae
Tank Size: 40 – 60 Litres minimum
Temperature: 22°C – 28°C

Should be kept in groups? Yes. They are shoaling fish and must be kept in a group of at least 6 to 10. A larger group of 15+ in a well-planted tank creates a truly stunning visual effect.
Fun Fact: You can often tell the males and females apart by looking at that black triangle. In males, the front edge is usually straight and sharp, while in females, it is often slightly rounded or curved at the bottom.
