Seachem PhosGuard is a high-capacity, high-porosity filtration media designed to rapidly remove phosphates and silicates from marine and freshwater aquaria. Excess phosphates are the leading cause of unsightly hair algae outbreaks and can inhibit the calcification of corals.
Unlike many granular phosphate removers that can compact and channel water, PhosGuard is uniquely bead-shaped. This spherical design allows for maximum water flow through the media, ensuring every bead is utilized for adsorption. Once PhosGuard binds with phosphates and silicates, the bond is irreversible—it will never leach the pollutants back into your aquarium, even once the media is exhausted.
Key Features:
Rapid Nutrient Removal: Specifically engineered to pull inorganic phosphate and silicate out of the water column quickly.
Optimized Hydrodynamics: The spherical shape prevents compaction, providing superior contact time compared to jagged GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide) media.
Inert & Safe: Does not release any harmful chemicals into the water; it is not an exchange resin.
Algae Prevention: By stripping silicates, it effectively targets "brown algae" (diatoms) and by removing phosphates, it controls "green hair algae."
High Porosity: Features an incredibly high surface area for its volume, meaning you need less media to treat more water.
Marine & Reef Aquariums: Essential for keeping delicate corals healthy and preventing algae from overgrowing live rock.
Freshwater Aquariums: Excellent for community tanks (Note: Not recommended for phosphate-buffered freshwater tanks).
Pond Filtration: Suitable for use in high-flow areas to maintain water clarity.
Usage Note: 250ml of PhosGuard treats up to 300L of water. For best results, place in a high-flow area of your filter and replace every 4 days until phosphate levels drop to 0.02 mg/L.
