Overview:

The Super Delta is a spectacular, high-end showstopper in the Betta world. It is a premium relative of the classic Veiltail and standard Delta tail. In a standard Delta, the tail expands into a triangular shape. In a Super Delta, the tail flares out beautifully to an angle between $120^\circ$ and $175^\circ$ when the fish is excited or flaring. It falls just short of a full half-circle Halfmoon ( $180^\circ$ ). Because their fins are incredibly broad, even, and sharp, they look like a living, swimming hand fan gliding through the water.

Origins:

While wild-type Bettas from the slow-moving floodplains of Thailand have short, utilitarian fins, the Super Delta is the result of years of meticulous, elite line-breeding by global hobbyists aiming for maximum fin symmetry and dramatic presence.

Personality:

Like all male Bettas, the Super Delta is fiercely proud, intelligent, and highly territorial. They are very interactive with their owners, often tracking your movement across the room or swimming down to say hello when you approach the glass. They are highly protective of their space and will instantly flare their gills and massive fins if they catch a glimpse of their own reflection.

Temperament: Highly Territorial (Aggressive toward other males/similar looking tank mates)
Diet: Carnivore (Thrives on high-protein Betta pellets, frozen or live bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Avoid cheap flakes that lack proper protein content)

Family: Osphronemidae (Labyrinth fish—they breathe atmospheric air from the surface)
Tank Size: 20 – 30 Litres minimum.

Should be kept in groups? No. Males must live completely singly and alone in their own aquarium. They will fight other males to the death.

⚠️ The Heavy-Fin Maintenance Guide:

Because a Super Delta’s tail fin is so extraordinarily massive and heavy, they require a bit of extra consideration compared to short-finned fish:

1. Heavy Tail Exhaustion: Imagine swimming all day while wearing a massive, waterlogged silk wedding dress—it is exhausting! Super Deltas need plenty of places near the surface to rest. You should provide "Betta Hammocks" (suction-cup plastic leaves placed 2–3 cm below the surface) or broad-leaved live plants like Anubias so they can sit and rest easily while breathing air.

2. The "Gentle Flow" Rule: Strong water currents from standard hang-on-back or internal power filters will toss a Super Delta around the tank like a leaf in a windstorm. Use a gentle air-driven sponge filter or a filter with an adjustable, baffled flow so they don't wear themselves out swimming against the current.

3. Fin Rot & Tears: Their expansive webbing is delicate. Avoid any plastic plants or jagged dragon stone that can snag and tear their fins. Stick to live or silk plants, and keep your water pristine to prevent fin-rot bacteria from setting into minor tears.
