Individual Larva: Approximately 15mm – 25mm in length.
Packaging: Available in tubs of 25 or 50 packed in organic bran or sawdust for freshness.
Waxmoth Larvae, commonly known as Waxworms, are the "gold standard" of treat foods for exotic pets. Known for their soft bodies and high fat content, these larvae are irresistible to even the pickiest eaters. They are the larvae of the Greater Wax Moth (Galleria mellonella) and are specifically bred to be a high-energy supplement to a balanced diet.
Because they lack a hard exoskeleton (chitin), they are incredibly easy to digest, making them a safe choice for younger animals or pets recovering from illness who need to put on weight quickly.
Key Features:
High Palatability: Often referred to as "reptile candy," their creamy texture and sweet scent stimulate a strong feeding response.
Soft-Bodied: Zero risk of impaction; perfect for pets with sensitive digestive systems or those that struggle with crunchy insects.
High Energy Density: An excellent source of healthy fats and lipids, ideal for breeding females or emaciated rescues.
Low Maintenance: Can be stored in a cool, dark place (between 10°C and 15°C) to slow their metabolism and extend their shelf life for several weeks.
No Mess: They do not jump or scuttle quickly, making them easy to offer via feeding tongs or a shallow dish.
This versatile live food is a favorite across several pet categories:
Lizards: Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos, and Tegus.
Turtles & Terrapins: Excellent for aquatic and semi-aquatic species.
Amphibians: Large Tree Frogs, Horned (Pacman) Frogs, and Axolotls.
Birds: Softbills, Finches, and Robins (especially during nesting season).
Fish: Large cichlids and various predatory pond fish.
Note: Due to their high fat content, Waxmoth Larvae should be fed as a supplemental treat rather than a primary staple to prevent pet obesity.
